My global client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join their team on a 9-12 month maternity cover contract basis, based primarily in their Great Yarmouth location, with the option for limited remote working when needed.

In this role, you will manage the Group Software Solutions Apprentices on a day-to-day basis. Your expertise will be essential, as you provide support, advice, and information at an expert level. Serving as the key interface between the team and other parts of the group, you will lead and mentor the GSS Apprentices to promote best practices, while planning and managing projects using relevant methodologies.

You will be responsible for planning and allocating resources to meet departmental productivity and quality goals. Ensuring that the team has effective development and test environments will be crucial to ensure work is correctly released. You will perform ongoing security testing and code reviews to improve software security throughout each project and consult the team on secure coding practices. Additionally, you will manage the preparation and maintenance of various departmental reports, including those related to bill runs, roadmaps, development requests, and bug lists. Providing out-of-hours support when required and managing the support team to prioritise workloads will also be part of your duties.

Your operational responsibilities will include capturing requirements through business liaison or workshops and communicating with colleagues to understand the needs of both departments and the group as a whole. Analysing findings and creating suggestions for strategic and operational improvements will be a key part of your role. You will work closely with developers to define and document questions, liaise with the business to gather new requirements, and explain feasibility – you wont need to ‘be’ a developer to have success in this role however. Creating and delivering project work plans, including roadmaps, and revising them as necessary to meet changing requirements will be important. You will chair technical reviews with developers before starting new development and estimate the time needed to complete the developer. Identifying resources, assigning responsibilities, and completing project documentation will be essential, as will managing and updating project management software. Ensuring project documentation is current and properly stored and managing day-to-day project operations to ensure completion within agreed time, scope, and quality parameters will be part of your responsibilities. You will ensure the project is completed following business quality control processes and procedures, with all documentation properly assigned.

On the people management side, you will complete the recruitment process, including working with recruitment agencies, conducting interviews, selecting candidates, hiring, and completing the induction process. Coaching, mentoring, and developing apprentices through internal and external training will be crucial. Leading the team to meet productivity, quality, and goal expectations and maintaining transparent communication within the team through meetings, one-on-ones, and appropriate emails will be important.

You should be a Prince2 Agile Practitioner with a Team Leadership Level 3 qualification. The ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, excellent problem-solving skills, and strong organisational skills are essential. You should be motivated, flexible, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Being a team motivator and supporter, having attention to detail, patience, and enjoying challenges, as well as having analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, will be key to your success in this role.
