Job
The Production Planning Manager is responsible for overseeing the production planning process to ensure efficiency, compliance, and consistent product quality. This role works closely with the Forecast & Packaging Manager and provides cover when required.
You will also be part of the rotating Saturday cover schedule, working alongside the Shift Supervisor as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Manage daily and weekly production planning activities.
- Create and maintain production schedules aligned with customer demand and business objectives.
- Work closely with the Forecast & Packaging Manager to maximise optimal utilisation and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Liaise with Shift Supervisors to ensure effective communication between production, office-based teams, and commercial functions.
- Analyse production data to optimise resource allocation and identify potential production issues.
- Manage stock levels across both ungraded (UG) and finished goods (FG).
- Collaborate on transport planning to ensure sufficient incoming supply to support operational efficiency.
- Oversee Tosca/Chep ordering, tracking, and stock management, ensuring appropriate availability during key seasonal peaks.
- Support trading activities with the Forecast & Packaging Manager to maximise returns on surplus product or cover shortfalls in availability.
- Act as a point of contact for key customer accounts where required.
- Manage ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice) processes.
- Prepare and present production reports to senior management, ensuring visibility, accountability, and informed decision-making.
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and achieve performance targets.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency gains and potential cost reductions.
- Communicate, escalate, and resolve issues promptly to minimise operational disruption.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Operational Management or related field (preferred but not essential).
- Strong experience in production planning or a similar role.
- Proven experience in resource allocation and workforce planning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all areas of the business.
- Capable of supporting colleagues positively while confidently addressing performance issues when required.
- A motivated self-starter with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Highly organised and methodical approach to work.
- Excellent IT skills, with proficiency in production scheduling systems and tools.
- Energetic, enthusiastic, and flexible in approach.
- Self-motivated and willing to go the extra mile.
