Depot Assistant

Location: Beccles, Norfolk
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 5:00pm
Salary: £26,000 – £32,000 (dependent on proven experience)

Our client is a well-established provider of specialist plant and machinery hire, supplying a wide range of industrial equipment to customers across the region. With an impressive fleet and a strong reputation for reliability and customer service, they continue to grow rapidly and are now looking to expand their team.

They are seeking a Depot Assistant to support day-to-day operations within their busy depot based in Beccles. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of administration, coordination, and customer interaction in a fast-paced environment.

The Role
Reporting to the Depot Manager, the Depot Assistant will act as a key support across operations, handling customer enquiries, coordinating hire processes, managing documentation, and ensuring smooth communication between customers, suppliers, engineers, and drivers.

Previous experience within plant hire, construction logistics, or equipment rental is beneficial — however, strong organisational skills and a proactive attitude are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to assist with the daily running of the depot
  • Respond to customer calls and emails efficiently and professionally
  • Process on/off hire paperwork and maintain accurate records
  • Coordinate maintenance updates, breakdown responses, and service schedules
  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain missing paperwork or parts
  • Order components and arrange servicing for plant and equipment
  • Track job progress and follow up on outstanding work orders
  • Maintain structured filing systems (digital and paper-based)
  • Assist with delivery and collection scheduling alongside the operations team
  • Support compliance with health and safety procedures on-site
Skills & Experience
  • Strong administration and organisation skills
  • Excellent communication — both verbal and written
  • Proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience in plant hire, construction admin, or equipment leasing (desirable but not essential)
  • Proactive, reliable, and able to take ownership of responsibilities
  • Team-focused with a problem-solving approach
