The Role
The HGV Driver is responsible for the safe and timely delivery and collection of materials to and from depots, sites, and suppliers. The role involves operating heavy goods vehicles responsibly, supporting site operations, and ensuring all deliveries are accurate, safe, and compliant with company procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate HGVs safely, courteously, and professionally at all times.
  • Transport supplies and materials to multiple destinations within the operational region.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks including tire pressure, oil and fluid levels, and overall vehicle safety, cleanliness, and roadworthiness.
  • Report any potential mechanical issues to the Line Manager promptly.
  • Safely load and unload supplies from vehicles.
  • Collect requisitioned items from storerooms, inventories, or suppliers to fill orders.
  • Verify shipments against requisitions or invoices for accuracy, completing all necessary documentation.
  • Assist in setting up site compounds, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Transport waste in line with environmental procedures, including asbestos handling where required.
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably requested to support operations.
Education & Qualifications

Essential:
  • Full HGV driving licence.
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
Desirable:
  • Non-licensed Asbestos Awareness training.
  • Manual Handling certification.
  • First Aider qualification.
  • CSCS Card Holder.
Experience
  • Background in logistics or trade-related roles advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a customer service-focused role beneficial.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Able to work efficiently under tight or changing deadlines.
Skills & Attributes
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-player mindset.
  • Flexible and adaptable to operational needs.
  • Knowledge of safe permissible vehicle weights and loading practices, including hazardous waste carriage.
  • Proactive, with a “can-do” attitude and excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Confidence to suggest improvements to processes or service delivery.
Key Attributes
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining HGVs.
  • Ability to drive safely and efficiently while adhering to the Highway Code.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labour.
  • Competent in following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Accurate in completing forms, logs, and written documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail with legible writing skills.
