We have an exciting role to fill working with a busy transport & town planning consultancy in Chelmsford. The team take on projects to investigate and advise public and private sector clients on the provision, form and type of transport infrastructure for current and future needs. They are looking for someone to join and support them as the volume, both in the UK and overseas, grows.

Responsibilities of the Transportation Planner

The main focus of the role is to utilise data from various sources to provide analysis and interpretation supportive of decisions. This may include demand forecasts and economic appraisal of schemes. Analysis uses established and bespoke modelling within Excel

Taking on mathematical analysis of data, using Excel and Visual Basic, you will be driven to expand your knowledge and read and understand the findings. Ideally you will embrace the idea of learning new skills and while following established guidance be confident to investigate and propose solutions for yourself. Working alongside knowledgeable professionals who will advise and validate your work, you will be trained in every aspect of the role.

Collating the results in to a report format, you must have an excellent command of the English language and be experienced in presenting information in this way (although training will be given with regard to specific formatting requirements)

Duties are varied and in time you will take on a variety of the tasks below;
• Design and interpret survey data
• Write clear reports and present options and recommendations for clients
• Use statistical analysis to examine data
• Use mathematical and computer simulation models to forecast the effects of improvements and suggestions
• Evaluate the benefits and costs of different strategies
• Participate in public consultation initiatives, including designing leaflets or questionnaires and attending scheme exhibitions throughout the UK
• Liaise and negotiate with different parties as required.

Main Requirements of the Transportation Planner

• Numerate Degree (preferably from a Russell Group University)
• Has good A Levels (grade C as a minimum) to include Mathematics or equivalent
• Very skilled at MS Excel
• Articulate writer, good command of English.
• An inquisitive mind and a passion for problem solving.
