Following the development of our client’s systems & data strategy in June 2019, our client is now in the process of mobilising a multi-year, multi-million pound programme of work to transform its systems, data and digital landscape. The changes delivered through this programme will be critical in enabling their overall strategy, which has set aspirations of significant growth in volume and markets over the next five years. This is the largest and most ambitious programme they have undertaken and this has already drawn significant amounts of interest and excitement from across the business.

Job Purpose

The Systems Transformation Programme Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the programme, including the business process change, technology delivery, and change management required to implement and embed the new systems and processes. Reporting into the Group Finance Director, the Programme Manager will provide programme leadership for all workstreams. These will be made up of seconded business resource, other fixed term subject-matter experts (SMEs) and teams from third-party technology implementation partners.

The Programme Manager is in place to drive the overall programme plan to a successful conclusion. This will include ensuring that all teams are delivering to a common plan and purpose, and that risks and issues are well-managed, with transparency of status. Essential to success is establishing strong working relationships with all members of the programme team, all stakeholders in the programme Steering Committee and key Heads of Department.

Key aspects of this role

• Accountable for the day-to-day management of the programme, including monitoring of progress against plans.
• Help to build the internal programme team.
• Maintain the overall delivery plan, ensuring all workstreams are working to the same timelines and that dependencies are clear and well
managed.
• Provide steady leadership in the face of uncertainty, change, and aggressive deadlines.
• Coach workstream leads in delivery to enable them to resolve risk and issues within their own scope.
• Hold third-party implementation partners to account for their own responsibilities and delivery.
• Ensure clarity of the programme scope so that all workstreams and stakeholders share a common view.
• Ensure that effective programme governance mechanisms are in place and role holders are clear on their responsibilities.
• Put in place programme controls to ensure up-to-date metrics on progress, status, risks, issues, dependencies and assumptions.
• Manage decisions and escalations appropriately to mitigate risks and issues.
• Manage communication upwards to the Programme Sponsor and Steering Committee to ensure that all stakeholders are engaged and
supportive.
• Manage communication downwards to the programme team, and third parties where appropriate, to provide transparency on decision
making and cross-workstream issues.
• Oversee the resourcing of programme roles, including involvement in the selection process for key roles.
• Work with Procurement to ensure that all necessary contractual arrangements are in place for all third parties.
• Work with the Group Finance Director to monitor programme finances to ensure delivery to budget.
• Prepare for the programme Steering Committee meetings and support the Programme Sponsor in chairing these meetings.
• Be a trusted advisor to the programme Steering Committee.
• Bring positive energy, enthusiasm and drive to the programme throughout.

Skills

• Proven leader of complex, business-critical technology transformation programmes
• Experience of managing technology implementation partners, heading up the commercial relationship with them, managing risk and
change in contracts
• Proven ability to build and lead integrated teams from various internal and external organisations
• Ability to make decisions independently and to assume higher-level leadership responsibilities in critical situations
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and proven ability to work effectively with all organisational levels
• Strong cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder management and influencing skills
• Proven problem-solving, decision-making and programme finance management skills
• Significant experience in setting up and enacting effective programme controls and governance
