Operations Manager

Operations Manager – Part time (18 hours per week)

Our client a registered charity based in Croydon are looking to recruit a part time Operations Manager to join their team, as the organisation continues to grow and develop into one of the most established, credible and needed charities in the youth violence and child poverty sector across London.

Most of the staff are in their teens and 20’s. However, the Board of Trustees, volunteers and consultants bring with them many more years of experience both in the charity sector and across the many relevant fields including law, Government, media, finance, arts and local council.

Duties include:

– Supporting the CEO with strategic leadership and governance of the charity.

– Providing information and assistance to the CEO for the Trustees Annual Report.

– Managing all programmes – including developing internal processes and procedures

– Ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are in place and effectively communicated for the ethical and compliant management of the charity

– Continuing the development of a positive and fulfilling culture for the youth workers, beneficiaries, volunteers and wider community

– Managing the yearly diary and goals, ensuring all trustees and staff are working to the quarterly deadlines that will push the success of the programmes and development of the charity.

– Working with bid writers and fundraisers to ensure forward planning around new funding streams for new programmes, and to ultimately create a sustainable mix of income from sponsorship, events and other funding sources.

– Working with voluntary accountant to deliver annual financial report to submit to the Charities Commission alongside the Trustees Annual Report.

– Maximise income by ensuring effective management of supporters, donors and partner funders, maintaining accurate records for the purposes of Gift Aid and future fundraising.

– Managing the income, expenditure and monthly cash flow of the charity, providing monthly cash flow reports to the CEO and flagging up any potential short falls.

– Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with local businesses and partners, educational establishments and local government for the continual development of programmes

– Act as an ambassador representing the charity at meetings and events and across the charity’s social media accounts

Person Specification

This position requires the skills to deliver the mandate of an ambitious charity whilst maintaining the grassroots ethos that was central to the founding of the campaign. The ideal candidate will:

– be pragmatic, have strong management skills with the ability to produce positive results from the charity’s team, with a specific ability to work with a team of staff who themselves have experienced educational, emotional or behavioural problems of their own.

– have an ability to crisis manage situations, be organised and have excellent programme and contract management skills.

– be able to present themselves in a professional manner to all stakeholders.

Above all, you will have a drive and passion to see the lives of young people in the community improve.

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years’ experience at a senior level in either a charity or relatable field, who can establish a robust infrastructure across all of the organisations operations, allowing the youth workers and the CEO to spend more time developing and expanding youth work programmes while the operations of the charity run to their best ability.

This is a part time position of approximately 18 hours per week, Monday – Friday. However, the working days and hours of work within each day are flexible as long as they fall within our standard office hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
