Reporting to: Director of Services

Salary: circa £43,000 (DOE)

Holiday entitlement: 25 days plus 3 discretionary days between Christmas and New Year and Statutory holidays

Pension: Pension entitlement

Working conditions: Full time and permanent
The post holder may be required to work some evenings and weekends. Time off in Lieu will be given in line with the charity’s policy.
Job summary

We are currently looking for a Head of Support & information Services for our client; a leading UK charity, based in London. This a central and important role supporting delivery of the charity’s mission by developing and delivering services for patients and their loved ones.
The post holder will work closely with the Director of services to develop the strategic direction of patient services and will proactively build relationships, partnerships and collaborations that will enable the charity to extend its impact and reach, so it can save lives and improve the quality of life of all those affected by cancer.

The main focus of the post is to ensure everyone affected by cancer is given access to the information and support they need to enable them to make good decisions about their treatment and care and maintain a good quality of life during and after treatment

Person specification

Experience – essential
• Proven experience of developing and delivering successful patient focused information and patient support services.
• Experience of working in the health sector and preferably in a health charity that deals with cancer patients and their care
• Experience of using digital technology to optimise service delivery and uptake for a lay adult audience with a wide range of health literacy
• Proven experience of effectively managing and developing staff
• Experience of supporting and managing professionals and volunteers in delivering services on behalf of a charity or other organisation
• Experience of developing and driving delivery of business plans and reporting against these
• Experience of developing and using effective and appropriate monitoring and evaluation frameworks and mechanisms
• Effective budget management.
Experience – desirable
• Clinically trained and experience of working in cancer care or oncology

Knowledge, skills and abilities
• Working knowledge of the cancer environment across the UK and the implications for supporting patients effectively – including psychosocial issues in relation to a serious condition
• Proven ability to develop information resources for people affected by cancer
• Excellent people management skills with an ability to inspire and manage a team – including clinical and non-clinical staff
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with a wide range of people and audiences
• Working understanding of the skills needed to give information and support by telephone, email and other digital channels to patients, their relatives and friends
• Proven ability and willingness to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve collective aims and improve outcomes for beneficiaries.
