Finance Officer - part time

We are proud to be working with Momentum Children’s Charity, a local organisation that supports families whose children have cancer or a life-challenging condition. The charity was founded in 2004 and has grown significantly over that time. They currently have partnerships with local hospitals in SW London, Surrey and West Sussex, who refer families for support ranging from therapies and counselling, to respite holidays and experiences.

Momentum are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated Finance Officer to join their small and friendly team, working part time (18 hours a week TBD).

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will have sole responsibility for the bookkeeping. You will be a good communicator, have excellent attention to detail and numerical skills and be able to work accurately as part of a team or independently. Ideally, with a minimum of three years’ experience of working in a similar role, you will have excellent organisational skills, time management and be able to prioritise tasks.


• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping.
• Monitoring current bank account activity with accurate recording of all donations, payments and bank receipts to the relevant nominal ledger in Quickbooks.
• Ensure all approved invoices from suppliers are paid in a timely manner.
• Ensure all approved expenses from employees, consultants and volunteers are accounted for and paid promptly.
• Bank weekly cash collections and donations
• Maintain and reconcile petty cash.
• Process budget holder order requests in line with authorised payment levels as required.
• Ensure accurate record keeping and submission of online Gift Aid claims.
• Monthly reconciliation of credit card statement to receipts.
• Prepare robust, timely and accurate budget, restricted funding and regular donor reports for senior management and budget holders.
• Record all fundraising activity in the post book and liaise with the fundraising team to ensure timely acknowledgement of donations.
• Maintain records on Salesforce, income and expenditure accounts and manage fundraising platforms as required.
• Complete administrative tasks such as filing paperwork and maintaining accurate financial records.
• Other ad hoc finance and administrative tasks as required.


• A minimum of three years’ experience in a finance role.
• At least two years’ experience working in a finance role for a charity would be advantageous.
• Excellent organisation skills including time management and prioritising tasks.
• Good attention to detail and ability to work accurately.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook and Teams.
• Experience of using an accounting software is a must, (QuickBooks preferred).
• GCSE Maths/English (or equivalent).
• Excellent numerical skills.
• Be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Be able to work within Safeguarding and Code of Conduct policies.

Work will currently be home-based, but we are hoping to move back to an office working environment in the Kingston/Elmbridge/Middlesex in due course.

The salary is £23k – £28k pro-rata depending on experience.
