Our client, drinks manufacturing company based in Denham, Suffolk are looking for Cyder Making production operative.

Education / Experience / Skills:

• This role includes heavy manual work, outside, in all weathers as well as the use of computerised and automated plant so the job holder should be physically fit and strong.
• Required – a good level of oral/written communication and numeracy skills.
• Required – a practical background with good manual skills. The job involves some heavy manual work so it is essential that the job holder is physically fit and strong.
• Required – the ability to work as part of a team and alone.
• Required – good attention to detail and observation skills.
• Required – the ability to meet deadlines and deliver against targets/objectives.
• Required – reliable and flexible, owning problems and taking responsibility.
• Desired – experience of food/drink processing and hygiene requirements.
• Desired – fork lift truck licence.

Job objective:

Responsible for all stages of the cyder making process to include (but not limited to); transferring liquids between storage vessels, weighing and mixing ingredients, fermentation of apple juice to produce Cyder, product filtration and blending. Additionally, laboratory testing, process monitoring, cleaning and accurate data entry is required to ensure product quality and consistency.

Role duties and responsibilities:

• Assist in the day to day operation of preparing, fermenting and storing of Cyder for use in draught, bottling and vinegar production.
• Monitoring of fermentation performance.
• Cleaning and sterilising plant, tanks and pipework before and after use.
• Preparing Cyder for filtration ready for packaging.
• Blending of Cyder products.
• Filling bulk containers as required to meet customer orders.
• Packaging bulk into keg product.
• Ensuring correct records are kept and are up to date.

Shared responsibilities:

• From time to time, you may be required to do other work for which you are qualified and/or capable and for which you are trained or will receive training from Aspall.
• To ensure all work undertaken is carried out within the company’s policies, standard operating procedures and appropriate legislation.
• To comply with the training, information and instruction, including the findings of any risk assessments.
• To not attempt to carry out hazardous work or use hazardous machinery unless trained and authorised to do so.
• To carry out work safely and without undue risk to self, colleagues and other who may be affected by actions, and not intentionally interfere, misuse or ignore arrangements, controls and items provided for health and safety purposes.
• To check equipment before using it, and not to use equipment knowingly to be faulty.
• To follow training received when using issued work items.
• To comply with the arrangements for emergencies and fire as instructed and all safety related advice and guidance.
• To use any personal protective equipment provided when required.
• To co-operate with management, colleagues, safety representatives and advisor promoting safe working practices.
• To keep work areas tidy and clear of hazards.
• To report accidents, incidents and hazards observed to a manager/supervisor.
• To tell someone (manager, supervisor or health & safety representative) if felt work or inadequate precautions are posing a risk to own health & safety or that of their colleagues.
• To participate in the departments training matrix as requested.
