Clinical Coding Officer

The Clinical Coding Department is responsible for extracting and analysing clinical information and medical terminology as written in patient discharge pro formas and patient medical records and translate into a coded format which is nationally and internationally recognised in a timely and accurate manner. The resulting information is used to support the Trust’s clinical and business requirements, for regional and National Health Service statistics, and to support the provision of Payment by Results to ensure accurate income generation for the Trust.
The successful person will be required to work as a member of a team to provide an efficient clinical coding service working to established systems and procedures.

Knowledge / experience –
Minimum of 2-3 years post ACC experience of working within a Clinical Coding department in the NHS using ICD-10 and OPCS4 clinical terminology, ideally in an Acute Trust
Experience of working with clinicians to implement change and service improvement
Excellent IT skills, all Microsoft packages, including presentations

Qualifications: –
Good general education to include A levels qualification or equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge
National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC)
Attendance at Clinical Coding Standards Course
Science A-level or equivalent
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) advantageous

This is a temporary contract to start as soon as possible and likely to continue through to October at least
Pay rate £20 – 24 per hour
